Modelling of the Fracture Process Zone of Concrete
Original language description
The present work deals with the discrete modelling of the fracture process zone of concrete. The microstructure of concrete is idealised by aggregates and mortar. A discrete framework based on the Rigid Body Spring Model (RBSM) is applied. Fracture is modelled by a scalar damage model applied to the springs connecting the rigid bodies. The heterogeneity is accounted for using a two-folded approach: The geometry of aggregates is modelled explicitly, whereas the microstructure of mortar is represented byan autocorrelated field, where the autocorrelation length represents the lengthscale of the microstructure of mortar. The evolution of the size and shape of the fracture process zone for uniaxial tension is studied using a periodic cell. Special attention is paid on the generation of the mesh at the boundaries of the periodic cell to avoid mesh alignment which could influence the fracture process zone.
