    Combined sewer overflows (CSO) represent a major source of pollution of urban streams. The article deals with a particular case of a side overflow CSO that was replaced with vortex separator in Čakovice. Functions of both objects are compared using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and in-situ measurements and sampling.Benefits of such replacement are assessed taking into account both improved separation efficiency of suspended solids in vortex separator and hydraulic retention.
