Comparison of optimization algorithms suitable for microstructure reconstruction
Original language description
To shift a possibility of a numerical analysis, a complicated real microstructure is replaced by a material representative volume element consisting of a binary (black and white) image, which statistically resembles a corresponding real microstructure. First, a statistical descriptor suitable for the microstructure characterization of a random media is considered. Successively, the unit cell is derived from the optimization procedure formulated in terms of this statistical descriptor. A set of three stochastic optimization algorithms is examined to solve this problem. It is shown that for this particular application a stochastic method based on simulated annealing combined with the re-annealing phase is superior to other approaches.
