    Head Loss due to Transition of Pressure Flow to Open Channel Flow

    The paper deals with the determination of the energy loss due to a sudden enlargement in the event of the transition of the pressure flow into the open channel flow. The plausible application of expressions used to the determination of the head loss dueto the sudden enlargement in the case of full pressure flow and free surface flow is discussed. For the purpose of the consideration of the suitability of these expressions for the transition of the pressure flow to the free surface flow, laboratory measurements were carried out. The measurements were realized on the model without a lateral enlargement (2D approach) placed in a laboratory flume. There are presented partial results from these experiments in the article.
