    Numerical approximation of rate-independent non-local damage problems

    In this contribution, we present a theoretically-supported numerical algorithm for the determination of stable damage paths for a non-local isotropic damage model of the Fremond-Nejdar type. The modelling framework is provided by recent advances in the variational formulation of rate-independent problems of continuum mechanics, where the time evolution of a system is governed by competition between the globally stored and dissipated energies.
