    Durability of HPC surface with metakaolin addition

  • Original language description

    Metakaolin may replace a part of Portland cement in concrete. Durability of Portland concrete is one of the most fundamental parameters which defines the ability of material to resist series of freezing - thawing cycles by parallel effect of chemical defrosting resistance. Generally, it is believed that concrete surface is compact without microcraks and opened pores. However, this does not reflect the reality. By adding metakaolin which granulometry is properly designed, it is possible to achieve improvement of compactness of material and decreasing of volume of pores in it. This article deals with experimental determination of surface waste amount for three different types of concrete, which depends on number of freezing-thawing cycles in saline solution.
