Interaction of the bridge infill layers with the bridge structure
Original language description
The paper discusses partial results of theoretical and experimental research of historical stone bridge structure - the Charles Bridge in Prague - with vault structure made of sandstone and arcose blocks. According to authors of this paper reconstructionand strengthening of the bridge made in late 60. and early 70. was the cause of mechanical failures of stone bridge structure, deformation of certain parts of the structure and biochemical degradation of sedimentary stone blocks. Theoretical studies andnumerical analyses conducted by authors pointed out several significant issues caused by increased rigidity of the bridge infill layers and its accouplement with the bridge vault stone structure.
