Numerical Modelling of segmental Lining using FEM

  • Original language description

The present paper is concerned with the numerical modeling of segmental lining in the two-dimensional (2D) environment using the finite element method. The main objective is to address the influence of various types of joints, typical of segmental lining, on the response of lining-subsoil system. Various modeling strategies allowing for the introduction of joints into the finite element model in 2D are discussed first. Next, an illustrative numerical study using the GEO FEM software is performed to disclose limits of the currently available geotechnical software when applied to segmental lining.
