Quantification of the effects of revitalization measures in catchments using hydraulic and hydrologic methods
Original language description
Experiences gained from the extreme flood events in recent years has led on worldwide basis to intensive investigations of effective flood mitigation measures leading to a reduction of devastating flood effects. Together with various technical solutions, measures can be taken in the countryside to increase or restore the natural retention effects of river inundation areas. Revitalization projects are in general aimed at a restoration of former natural functions of a floodplain enabling water retention, infiltration and a slowdown of water movement resulting in a flood wave transformation. We aim to elaborate a suitable method for an analysis and quantification of the retention effects of various revitalization measures in catchments using exact methodsof hydrological and hydraulic modelling of floodplain processes. This project is focused on a methodological approach based on an application of model analyses for a qualified and objective evaluation of revitalization measures.
