Life cycle assessments of concrete structures - a step towards environmental savings
Original language description
Considering the volume of produced concrete and number of built concrete structures, the problem of associated environmental impact forms a significant part of the entire global problem of sustainable development. Utilization of environmentally optimizedconcrete structures thus creates a potential for increase of quality of construction and consequently reduction of environmental impacts. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) represents complex multi-parametric assessment of environmental impacts of the structure within the whole life cycle. This means to cover in one assessment process all essential environmental issues including CO2 emissions, energy consumption, water consumption, waste production, etc. In the case of concrete structures, selected criteria should support design and construction of high quality and at the same time environmental friendly concrete structures.
