Optimization of numerical modeling for the design of underground structures
Original language description
There is a very significant boom of the tunnelling industry in the Czech Republic and generally worldwide in recent years. The main reason is the lack of space on surface in major cities together with requirements for faster traffic connections. Therefore a very significant number of tunnels are either under construction or in the design stage. One of the reasons of a high price of tunnels in Czech is inadequate time for preparation of constructions; consultants do not have a sufficient time to providedetailed numerical modeling which would assist to optimize excavation procedure and support measures of underground structures. Therefore quite often conservative or inappropriate solutions are adopted. The paper introduces research project which is to optimize the implementation of numerical calculations of underground structures to achieve maximum compliance with reality.
