Behaviour and resistance of steel structures exposed to fire
Original language description
The paper summarises current level of knowledge in structural fire design and its dissemination in Europe. Three procedures, design tables, simple models and advanced models are presented. The first step of the design is modelling the fire scenario to determine the heat released from the fire and the resulting atmospheric temperatures within the building. It is followed by modelling the heat transfer between the atmosphere and the structure. Evaluating the mechanical loading under fire conditions differs from the maximum mechanical loading for ambient-temperature design, due to reduced partial safety factors for mechanical loading in fire. Determination of the response of the structure at elevated temperature enables to check the design at fire conditions.
