Experimental and numerical derivation of effective electric conductivities for polysiloxane-matrix based composites
Original language description
Numerical approach for the determination of effective electric conductivities of polysiloxane matrix based plain weave textile composites is presented. The proposed approach combines the Mori-Tanaka mean field theory and the finite element element simulations within the concept of statistically equivalent periodic unit cell. The results of laboratory measurements of effective conductivities of two types of composite laminates made of resistive basalt and conductive carbon fabrics bonded to highly resistive polymer matrix are also presented and compared with numerical predictions. Although available only for through-thickness properties these comparisons support the selected fully uncoupled hierarchical modeling strategy. Nevertheless, to fully accept this approach further laboratory investigation is needed for quantifying in particular the inplane response of these material systems.
