Research of the limit state of earth structures as flood protection system - domino effect
Original language description
Roughly between 300 up to 600 years ago many small earth dams were constructed in the south part of the Czech Republic. They were used mostly for fish production and flood protection. To our days roughly one third survived, it means close to the number 25 000. Dam crest height is between 3 and 15 meters and these earth-fill dams were constructed as nearly homogeneous dams from the local soils. During catastrophic floods in 2002 many of them had some problems but less than 0.3% failed.
