Centre-line optimization of buried arch bridges ? theoretical derivation and practical application
Original language description
Arch is the oldest structural shape, the mankind has invented. Already the Romans con-structed a large number of stone arch bridges on roads or aqueducts, many of which sur-vived to present. Buried arch bridges are built on both roads and railways, bothas underbridges or overbridges. Due to low construction costs, great durability and endurance, they are fa-voured by contractors and investors. Buried arch bridges are built with spans from 2 m up to 40 m. This text focuses on the centre-line optimization of buried arch bridges, presents a theoretical derivation of the optimal centre-line and a practical application.
