Experimental assessment of the effectiveness of the paraffin injection method for the renovation of damp brick masonry
Original language description
Experimental investigation on the effect of paraffin injection on the properties of ceramic brick is presented. Within the experimental testing, the open porosity, water absorption coefficient, pore size distribution, and dynamic sorption isotherms are measured for the original, as well as paraffin-treated brick. The rate of paraffin infiltration into the brick samples, which is the crucial parameter for its proper function, is observed by infrared spectroscopy. On the basis of the measured data, the capability of paraffin injection to prevent moisture ingress into ceramic brick is assessed.
