Generalized Strain Measures and Their Application in Large-Strain Plasticity
Original language description
This paper describes a large-strain theory based on the generalized strain and stress measures. The so-called Seth-Hill family of generalized strain measures is introduced and the influence of different strain measures on the stress-strain response in simple tension and compression is explored. Subsequently, a large-strain elasticity theory based on logarithmic strain is presented. The main advantage of this theory is in the modular framework consisting of three steps. In the first step, a logarithmic strain measure is computed. In the second step, this strain measure enters a constitutive law, which may have an identical structure as in the small-strain theory. The constitutive law defines generalized stress and stiffness tensors. In the third step, these generalized tensors are transformed into the second Piola-Kirchhoff stress and the appropriate stiffness tensor.
