Retention and Flood Control Effect of Floofplains
Original language description
The flood control and retention capacity of floodplains become very hot topics. To contribute to very intensive discussion, three different floodplains were selected and their flood retention and transformation capacity have been assessed using field measurements and mathematical simulation modeling. Three types of retention capacity - passive retention capacity of floodplain, retention capacity of soils in floodplain and transformation potential of floodplain were separately examined and quantified. Results were then summarized into general formulations and recommendations, how to assess and effectively use potential of natural floodplains, to play their role in integrated flood control system.
