Effect of Specimen Size on Laboratory Measured Strengrh of Highstrength Concretes
Original language description
Current development of high-strength concretes aims to utilisation of high strength aggregate with maximum grain size four or eight mm. Grains with size 16 mm are used rarely. Highstrength concretes with compressive strength higher than 150 MPa are commonly produced in laboratories now. For such concretes measuring of compressive strength on classical cube with dimensions 150x150x150 mm is not suitable, as for this size of specimen the applied load of compression testing machine must be several thousandkilonewtons. This value of applied testing load is quite demanding. Utilisation of smaller testing specimens for concretes with lesser grain size is possible and stresses determined in tests with these specimens can be adequately accurate.
