STUDY OF HETEROGENEOUS STRUCTURAL MATERIALS USING NANOINDENTATION

  • Original language description

Nanoindentation is a powerful experimental technique. It is widely used for acessing of mechanical properties of small material volumes at nano and micrometer range. It is based on the measurement of the load versus penetration relationship using very small diamond tip pressed into the material. With this method, it is possible to acess bulk elastic properties, such as Young's modulus, hardness and viscosity of material volumes. Besides standard quasi-static testing is capable of in-situ SPM imaging, dynamic testing and scratch test. These wide possibilities of nanoindentation together with the limits of this experimental method are shown on the examples of heterogeneous structural materials.
