Toxic Metals in Urban Reservoirs in the Prague Metropolitan Area (Czech Republic)

  • Original language description

The aim of this paper was to explore toxic metals contamination in three different components of the aquatic environment (water, sediments, and different species of fish) in twelve Prague's reservoirs. Measured values of water quality parameters and toxic metals in the monitored reservoirs were often exceeded the EQS, including total organic carbon, chemical oxygen demand, phosphate, ammonium nitrogen, dissolved oxygen and copper. Copper and zinc were evaluated as most hazardous metals in the studied reservoirs. Even the monitored values in fish meat fulfill legislation requirements, it is necessary to continue in the monitoring to assess the ecological and sanitary risk of toxic metals in fish biomass, especially because fish from most of the reservoirs are used for human consumption.
