Documentation of geoglyphs in Peru Using VHR and SAR satellite data
Original language description
In Peru, near Nasca city in a desert, there are well known structures called geoglyphs, Doc. Maria Reiche from Dresden investigated these structures for about 40 years of her life. The area of interest is very large and not easily accessible; of course, the best known area near Nasca city on Pampa de Nasca with famous geoglyphs is nowadays being documented. But there are a lot of other geoglyphs and areas out of the protected areas. Another problem is that the geoglyphs are restored and the original appearance is not documented. Aerial photogrammetric methods and in adjacent areas mainly satellite data for mapping of geoglyphs were used. Nowadays, there are possibilities of using a satellite data with resolution better of 1m. Only VHR satellite data with the best geometrical resolution can be used for geoglyphs documentation and discovering because of their construction; although typical figurative geoglyph is generally big (meters to hundreds of meters) it is created from lines tens o
