On the Czech Technical University in Prague a case project of monitoring the state highway using mobile mapping systems (MMS) started in 2009. The project aimed to develop and verify technology of detecting changes in environment, especially by monitoring the condition of vegetation around the communications to propose, develop and test the possibilities of documentation of communications surroundings with mobile 3D scanner. The completed part of highway D11 from Prague to Hradec Kralove has been mappedfor purposes of this project using a mobile mapping system LYNX Mobile Mapper. After construction completion of D11 highway in 2010 it became clear that some parts of this new highway was not well done. The new mapping was provided to document known defect parts and detect others. The parts of highway with defects were repaired and mapped again after reconstruction. Advantages of the mobile laser scanning method are shown in this project.
