Two-dimensional model of Ciliwung River flood in DKI Jakarta for development of the regional flood index map

  • Original language description

The objective of this study is to present sophisticated approach to develop the supporting materials for flood control implementation in DKI Jakarta. High flow rates in Ciliwung River, flowing through Jakarta, cause extensive flooding regularly in rainy season. Affected area comprises high densely populated villages. The effort is to decrease vulnerability of the location and develop efficient early warning system. For this purpose the flood index map has to be developed. This study analyses development of flood risk map based on two-dimensional modeling of the inundation, when FESWMS tool is applied. The reference flood event for the model is the recent most significant - 2007 flood. Resulting solution represents flood characteristics as is inundation area, inundation depth and flow velocity. Model verification is performed by confrontation of the results with survey data. The model solution is overlayed with street map of Jakarta, providing the flood characteristics within the affected area. Furthermore, alternatives of flood mitigation measures are introduced and discussed.
