Properties of primary and treated Air Pollution Control residues from Municipal Solid Waste Incineration facility
Original language description
Incineration of municipal solid waste is a worldwide growing technology which solves in a relatively effective way problems of non-recyclable Municipal Solid Waste (MSW). It reduces mass of waste to ~ 30 % and its volume even by 90 %. Dominant portion ofsolid incineration residues forms bottom ash but also fly ash (Air Pollution Control, APC, residues) is generated in an amount of 2 to 3 % of initial MSW mass. Present paper deals with the characterization of fly ash from a MSWI facility before and after treatment by help of the incinerator?s APC treatment technology. Experimental results show that the acid washing procedure applied in the incinerator in order to leach out heavy metals from fly ash reduces the content of chlorides which has a positiveeffect on setting time but it does not solve the problem of the high amount of sulfates.
