Design of Noise Barriers with the Boundary Element Method
Original language description
Paper deals with the problem of noise barriers design. The emphasis is put on the boundary element method (abbrev. BEM) and its practical use. The aim of the paper is to demonstrate the advantages of noise barriers design using the BEM compared to commonly available engineering methods (NMPB-Routes-1996, Fresnel?s integrals, Cechura?s formula, attitude according to Kurze and Anderson and the standard ISO 9613-2). Designs of the noise barrier height and the absorption coefficient of its surface are investigated. The instrument for the design is the software programmed in Matlab language. The paper shows that the BEM in comparison with used engineering methods takes into account diffraction of sound waves and interference of direct and reflected ray in abetter way. The BEM is therefore suitable tool for noise barriers design.
