USING VNIR HYPERSPECTRAL SCANNER FOR DIGITAL IMAGING AND ANALYSIS OF OLD PAINTINGS
Original language description
Hyperspectral imaging is an important tool for painting examination and documentation. This technique uses hundreds of pre-defined narrow spectra bands in a given spectra range and gives unique information about examined object. Application of new VNIR hyperspectral sensor for painting analysis is described in this paper. The hyperspectral camera is equipped with 35mm lens and its motion is done by means of pan&tilt device that allows the sensor to move in full horizontal range and in 90 degrees in vertical course. Operational range of the device is between 400 and 1000 nm. Comparison with infrared are discussed. These techniques allow one to detect the location of underdrawing lines and potential material identification. The goal of this contributionis a non-destructive deep exploration of specific paintings. Results are given on two wooden board paintings. Painting explorations were done in university laboratory with kind permission of owner - academic painter Mr. Martin Martan.
