Analysis of the shear cracks in the prestressed thin-wall element and their effect on the deflection of the structure
Original language description
Nowadays, more emphasis is placed on reducing of economic efficiency of structures and reducing their negative impact on the environment. This leads to the effort of the reducing their own weight, especially in the big-span structures (such as bridges). The self weight is the major part of the total load in this type of structures. The use of the thin prestressed elements is advantage in this case. Their deflections can be effectively eliminated by correct prestressing arrangement. The right prestressing arrangement also ensures avoiding of bending cracks and reducing bending stiffness. High attention must be given to the shear capacity of these elements and creation of the shear cracks. These cracks influence the behavior of the whole structure. Thispaper is focused on monitoring the initiation and development of the shear cracks in thinweb prestressed concrete elements. Their influence on the development of deflection is also examined.
