The paper presents results of research carried out in order to develop a tool for the estimations of mean discharge values which are a necessary input for the assessment of water balance of reservoirs. The calculation procedure is based on four main catchment characteristics with an important influence on the runoff from the catchment. It was derived based on regression analysis. Two approaches were applied for this purpose of which one is based on the application of simple power function and one is based on the application of power function with shifts in two directions. The results presents parametrization which was done using a dataset involving 84 catchments up to 170 square kilometres.
