Influence of explosion and fire on underground structures
Original language description
In the past it appeared that an explosion in a closed space of underground works together with an extreme increase of temperature influences the bearing capacity of underground structures, such as road and rail tunnels, underground power stations, underground parking, etc. The explosion is caused by various sources (terrorist attack, explosion of inflammable material positioned on freight cars, and such). The paper will be focused on tunnels and particularly on a response of the tunnel lining from concrete. A shock wave due to the explosion and the increased temperature leads to a spalling of concrete, i.e. to a reduction of thickness of the bearing structure. Relatively complicated system of equations affecting the lining and rock surrounding the tunnel will be simplified to a laminated cylinder on non-linear Winkler subsoil, involving the influence of explosion, change of temperature and cracking. It will be shown that the superheated vapor together with interacting waves of the open
