Error Analysis of Determination of Elastic Constants from Resonant Vibrations
Original language description
The error analysis was performed for the determination of elastic constants (Young?s modulus, shear modulus, and Poisson?s ratio) using only the maximum admissible errors (MAE) of the used digital measurers. This analysis is relatively simple and gives the first impression of the accuracy of the determined quantities. A resonant method was used for the determination of the elastic moduli. Young?s modulus EL was determined from the resonant frequency fL of the longitudinal vibration and EF was determinedfrom the resonant frequency fL of the flexural vibration. A shear modulus G was determined from the resonant frequency fT of the torsional vibration. The maximum relative errors (MRE) of G, EL and EF are 0.2%, 0.2% and 0.5% respectively. Poisson?s ratiowas calculated a) using G and EL ; the MRE = 2.5%; b) using G and EF; the MRE = 4.9%; c) using fT and fL ; the MRE = 0.17% and d) using fT and fF ; the MRE = 0.27%.
