Lateral-torsional buckling of class 4 steel welded beams at elevated temperature
Original language description
This paper presents research in behaviour of laterally unrestrained beams (I or H section) of Class 4 cross-sections at elevated temperatures, which is based on an undergoing research program focused on fire design of slender sections. Three Class 4 section beams were tested at temperatures 450 and 650°C. One of the beams was tapered. The design of the test set-up and description of the experiment is given. The tests were subsequently used for FE model validation. Later, a parametric study was performedin general FE software ABAQUS. Finally, all the numerical data are shown and compared to existing design codes. A recommendation for the further refinement of the design formulas is also given.
