In this paper, we focus on testing an optical performance of today’s mobile phones for the purpose of the 3D reconstruction of the objects by using image correlation methods. Several objects of different types were captured by a mobile phone and the images were processed with a photogrammetrical application for image correlation, resulting in a virtual 3D model. Each computed 3D model was then compared to "ground truth", given by a laser scanning technique with a high accuracy scanner. This paper will show the possibilities and limitations of 3D building reconstruction using smartphones and its application. The accuracy of computed 3D models was also taken into account.
