Influence of Microstructure and Defects at Micro-Scale on Effective Properties of Lime-Based Mortars
Original language description
The effective material properties of mortars and cementitious materials can be quite efficiently estimated using micromechanical modeling. To that purpose, a proper description of all phases in the terms of their morphology and mechanical properties mustbe known. The matrix-inclusions-voids homogenization scheme suitable for concrete does not give correct predictions of effective properties in the case of lime-based mortars because of a presence of shrinkage induced cracks between neighboring aggregates. On the other hand, the weak interfacial transition zone around aggregates, present in Portland cement concretes, can be also found in lime-based mortars. Our work is focused on the description of individual phases in the lime-based mortars and their mechanical properties.
