    Stabilisation And Reinforcement Of Stonework Columns In Compression With High-Strength Fabrics

  • Original language description

    Experimental research into stone masonry columns reinforced by their passive wrapping in fabrics of high-strength carbon fibres indicated the necessity of a different approach to evaluate the deformation characteristics and carrying capacity of coursed stonework. This stonework is normally composed of irregular quarry stone blocks and coursed masonry from regular stone blocks. Irregular masonry built with quarry stone blocks differing in irregular size and shape with chippings and sharp edged walling units of undressed quarry stone requires a specific approach to its evaluation. The dissimilarity in the horizontal deformations and strain of the above types of stone masonry predetermines the different effectiveness of their passive wrapping on the deformation characteristics of the masonry and its carrying capacity.
