    Damping of the Structures

    The submitted paper deals with several approaches to modeling of damping of the structures. First of these models is mentioned a well-known and mostly used Rayleigh?s damping model, where the damping matrix is expressed as linear combination of mass andstiffness matrices. Alternatively the modification of Rayleigh?s model, where the damping matrix is proportional only to the mass or stiffness matrix, was studied as well. Secondly the more general model of proportional damping was introduced. This modelwas developed by Caughey. Lastly the hysteretic damping approach was used in the numerical study presented in this paper. All of these models have been compared by the numerical solution of SDOF and MDOF dynamic system, which is based on the real structure of footbridge.
