Original language description
Presented paper examines the hydraulics of a drop manhole in the sewer system through an experimental investigation on a physical model. The hydraulic research has been performed to find the optimal geometry for the drop manhole with plung flow inlet incase of supercritical flow conditions. The theoretical part of the paper contains a description of two common ways to overcome the drop in the sewer system: a manhole drop with vortex as well as direct inlet. It provides an overview of published researchconcerning the manhole with direct inlet and analyzed their design parameters. The practical part contains a description of experimental measurments performed on a scaled model of the manhole placed inside the test flume of the hydraulic engineering laboratory. Measured datasets were evaluated and explained. The overall range of their validity in the practical design are discussed. The result is a set of recommendations and optimized geometry which can serve as a guide in the broader en
