This paper deals withthedependency betweenthedevelopment ofroad traffic intensity andseveralstatistic and spatial indicators, which aremonitored in cities of the Czech Republic.Road traffic intensity was used as the basic phenomenon. Theother city indicatorsareresidential, productive, recreational and other areas,population and many other indicators.This analysisis a part of a large research focused on last forty years in cities of various sizes, traits, and location in the countryduring last forty years in ten years? time steps.Stagnating or even adecreasing number of inhabitants of cities on one side andincreasing road traffic intensityis a typical characteristic in most cities. The fact concerns both cars, and lorries; motorcycle form of transport has receded for more than 80 per cent during these forty years.The papershowsthat the urban development is strongly dependent on historical developments of individual cities.
