The aim of this paper is a description of hydraulic research of the Ludkovice Dam and Bojkovice Dam. The research was caused by the need to answer the questions on the capacity of their spillways and related structures. Both dams are located in the basinof the Morava River and were built in the early 60s of the 20th century for water supply purposes. The constructions of the two dams are very similar; they differ in the material used for the construction of dam's body and thus the inclination of the downstream slopes. The research was focused on non-gated spillway, chute, outlet tunnel and stilling basin. The original design parameters did not correspond to current tandards, particularly the value of design discharge; nowadays this value increased from 100-year-flood (Q100) to 1000-year-flood discharge. During the research work the focus of interest shifted from the issue of the dissipation of water energy (in the stilling basin) and water levels in the outlet tunnel to reducing pulsa
