Utilization of green roofs for rainwater harvesting system for non-potable purposes
Original language description
In this paper, the effectiveness of green roofs as constituent part of the rainwater harvesting system for non-potable use is investigated. In the adoption of green roofs for catchment areas of rainwater harvesting systems, some additional care should betaken into accounts, such as the type of substrate, type of vegetation, and type of catchment system. The presented research is based on the analysis of related reports from around the world and identifying the main achievements and gaps of them. Therefore, the goal of this paper is to point out the benefits, limitations, and main precautions, which should be taken into account for adopting green roofs as part of the rainwater harvesting systems. In addition to the presented results, the numerous advantages of adoption of green roofs in rainwater harvesting system should be considered, such as building thermal comfort, local micro-climate, and controlling the flow of surface water.
