Numerical Models of Tunnels and Eurocode7
Original language description
In the geotechnical engineering practice the majority of cases of the numerical analyses are made on the basis of experience and routine. All adopted procedures have to be in accordance with relevant standards and rules. The EN 1997-1 „Eurocode 7: Geotechnical design – Part 1: General rules“ is the superordinate standard in the geotechnics. This Eurocode introduces a geotechnical structure design based on limit states but the application of these techniques in the numerical methods is not mentioned. In the first part, the paper describes problems connected with the implementation of design approaches according to Eurocode 7 in the numerical modelling of mined tunnels. The application of design approaches in numerical modelling of tunnel constructions and limits are also discussed. The second part describes an alternative procedure of implementation of Eurocode rules to numerical analyses. This approach has been introduced on the Czech Tunnelling Association web sites and it is not in contradiction to Eurocode 7 rules.
