Mesh Topology Based Data Mapping between Simplex Finite Element Meshes

  • Original language description

The present paper deals with a methodology for data mapping between simplex finite element meshes. While the standard approaches are based on various spatial decomposition techniques using typically Euclidean distance as the measure of proximity of the objects, the proposed method relies on topological features of the processed meshes and their classification to the underlying geometrical model. The search for an element of the source mesh which is closest to a particular node of the target mesh is accomplished using the walking algorithm which traverses the source mesh between the neighbouring elements from a chosen starting element towards the processed node. The order, in which the nodes are processed, follows the nodal connectivity propagated from already processed nodes to their neighbours.
