This paper summarizes software tools that are available and applicable in the Czech construction market now and evaluate their capabilities and versatility for architects and cost estimators. It analyzes their strengths and weaknesses from different points of view. It defines formats of data we can work with and types of information that are relevant for cost estimation. The paper also compares different options we have for getting data from BIM applications into budgeting software applications. The main goal of the paper is to present best option how to exchange data between relevant software tools, so we can utilize full potential of using BIM. It also gives suggestions on how to streamline this exchange.
