A variational approach to quasicontinuum method for elasto-plastic networks
Original language description
Using a benchmark example, we demonstrate that the original formulation by Beex et al., based on the central summation rule, delivers an energy-consistent evolution, in the sense that the energy equality holds for the reduced QC system. In addition, we will show that the magnitude of the errors in the stored and dissipated energies induced by interpolation and summation steps are rather low, despite the significant dimension reduction and time savings achieved by the QC method.
