Methodology of historical dam safety improving

  • Original language description

This paper represents a part of the results generated by the project "Methodology and prevention and preservation tools of cultural heritage endangered by floods", which has been solved at the Department of Hydraulic Structures, Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University in Prague between years 2011 and 2015. State funding provider of the project was the Ministry of Culture (Programme: Applied research and development of national and cultural identity). One of the main objectives of the project was to assess the role of historical water works within flood protection system. The database and the specialized map of historical dams in the Czech Republic were created. Furthermore, a methodology was prepared to ensure the safety of the historical water works during the floods in terms of changing requirements for their safety. At the time of construction of historical dams were in force lower safety requirements for these structures during flood situations. In an effort to secure the historical water works in accordance with current safety standards may cause some incongruity with the methods of the conservation of industrial heritage. A completed methodology presents reconstruction methods of hydraulic structures that minimize the impact on their historical and cultural values.
