Mechanical and Thermal Insulating Properties of The Lightweight MSWI Concrete Blocks
Original language description
This paper is focused on the problem of the lightweight concrete blocks made from the MSWI (Municiapl Solid Waste Incineration) bottom ash (BA). MSWI bottom ash is generated in huge amount (ca. 30 wt. % of incinerated waste) worldwide and thus there is intention to recycle this material and thus contribute to the sustainability by means of reduction of natural resources consumption. The most promising recycling way of MSWI BA seems to be its utilization as aggregates in concrete since the alkaline cementitious environment is ensuring the solidification/stabilization of heavy metals present in MSWI BA. Since MSWI BA is porous it can be used as lightweight aggregates in concrete with improved thermal insulating capability. Four size fraction of MSWI BA were used for preparation of “no-fines” lightweight concrete. Influence of concrete composition on strength and coefficient of thermal conductivity was studied.
