The Use of Recycled Materials for Concrete in the Context of Building Structures Application

  • Original language description

This paper deals with the possibility of partial replacement of natural aggregate and natural sand by coarse and fine recycled aggregate originated from construction and demolition waste and their environmental comparison. Recycled inert materials are possible to use as partial replacement of coarse fraction aggregate and sand in concrete. However, it must be expected, that it could negatively influence concrete properties. The main goal of this investigation was find the optimal solution for using recycled construction and demolition waste, especially waste concrete, as partial replacement of aggregate and sand in concrete mixture depending on the development of long term compressive strength and life cycle analysis of concrete. The paper will present results of experimental research of recycled aggregate properties originating from concrete waste and the use of recycled aggregate as partial replacement of natural aggregate and sand. Further, environmental comparison of natural and recycled aggregate and finally the environmental assessment of concrete with partial replacement of natural aggregate and sand by coarse and fine recycled aggregate.
