Contribution of Selected Modified Bituminous Binders on Deformation Behavior of HMAC Mixes
Original language description
One of the targets in modern pavement engineering is development of technical solutions which would lead towards long life pavement structures. Such approach has economical and environmental impact and fully supports the idea of sustainable transport infrastructure. Within the activities of Czech based centre of competence for sustainable transport infrastructure (CESTI) two mix designs of high modulus asphalt concrete (HMAC) have been defined using different grading and aggregates. In parallel 11 different types of bituminous binders modified by different additives or crumb rubber were experimentally prepared, tested and applied in the HMAC mixes. At the same time reference mixes with 20/30 and 30/45 bitumen were produced and tested by same set of test methods. The focus of the asphalt mix evaluation was laid on deformation behavior mainly in the range of moderate and low temperatures. In this respect stiffness has been assessed at different temperatures and crack propagation test, as well as flexural strength test have been done and results analyzed. The effect of particular binders on the selected properties is discussed in this paper and recommendations on their use are made.
