Original language description
Industrial heritage in the Czech Republic is still in danger, and thus heritage listing and conservation are understood as a tool to save it. However, the result is often the opposite. Many cases have been identified, where a listed heritage site is decaying and regeneration has been blocked, for various reasons. This paper focuses on the possibilities of institutionalized urban/spatial and strategic planning to contribute to the issue of industrial heritage reuse. Industrial heritage sites represent spatial reserves for urban development, but require some usage limits to prevent the loss of cultural value. This paper deals with the possibilities of urban planning in the Czech context, including a comparison of experience and tools commonly used in many countries, while aiming to explore issues specific to the Czech Republic’s recent history and legislation.
