Mechanical properties of concrete containing natural zeolite
Original language description
The article is aimed at the comparison of mechanical properties of the high performance concrete (HPC) containing different amounts of natural zeolite (NZ), which was used as a supplementary cementitious material. The investigated parameters -compressive strength and flexural strength were studied in time for the purpose to describe the influence of the process of hydration. Results showed that the compressive strength reaches the highest values when 10 % of cement weight is substituted by NZ and then, with the increasing amount of NZ in the mixture the strength decreases. Values of flexural strength exhibited no straightforward relation with the rising amount of NZ in the mixture. As it was expected, compressive strength grew with time. Surprisingly the flexural strength decreased in the time period up to 180 days from manufacture and later increased. This fact denotes the fragile behaviour of the material in the first months of the concrete service life.
